Warm weather is on the horizon!
Shorts season is almost here! We’re so excited to get some vitamin D soon and bask in the sun and warmth. This month, we’re having the dreaded beach and pool talk with you all, so you’re all prepared come summer! It’s hard to want that beach blonde, but feel like you can’t get in the ocean or pool with it. Trust me, we know! We’re here to provide you some insight on what chlorine, pool water, and the beach in general can do to your hair along with some helpful tips that allow you to still enjoy your spring break festivities.
To kick it off, our first tip is to pre-wet and mask your hair prior to swimming! Pre-wetting your hair and added a good moisture mask is a great preventative to not letting your hair alter due to chlorine. Doing this creates a barrier over your hair preventing chemicals from penetrating your hair. There is always a potential risk with your hair changing color, especially our blondes, when hopping straight in the pool without a preventative. We’ve seen cases of tinted green hair, dry hair, dull hair, and vivid colors drastically fading out overtime. We don’t want your time and money in the salon to go to waste!
Next we would recommend rinsing your hair immediately following your pool or beach fun. This prevents any of the chemicals or salt water from airdrying into your hair and setting or drying out your hair. We don’t necessarily recommend washing it everyday if you’re spending multiple days at the beach, as this could further dry your hair, so stick to rinsing and conditioning only if you can!
Of course, wearing a swim cap is the most preventative way of keeping your hair healthy and happy, but who wants to wear that?!
The sun can also be a friend as well as an enemy when it comes to your hair. The heat from the sun can lighten and brighten up your hair just a bit!
Although, this can also be accompanied by minor heat damage. We recommend stepping under an umbrella periodically, or popping on a hat to save your hair, and more importantly, your scalp!
Lastly, Wear. Your. Sunscreen!! All times of the year!
Thanks for tuning in, and again, we can’t wait to see your faces at the salon!
