How to stay healthy and hydrated on a busy work day…
Biscuit here,
Before I get into today’s topic I’d like to give a shoutout to the awesome Ryan Purcell for doing a super dope Halloween photoshoot of me (and my aunties) this past Sunday. He really blew it out of the water with the creativity and amazing shots.
Alright, so today’s topic is how to stay healthy and hydrated on a busy work day. A lot of my aunties ask me; “Biscuit how are you eating so healthy and keeping up your water intake when you have so many clients to see and things to do?” and I thought hmmmm… great question, but instead of just telling my aunties I’m going to tell EVERYONE!!
Firstly, hydration. This one is easily neglected, I like to make sure my water is first and foremost cold at ALL TIMES. No one likes lukewarm water that has the taste of metal or plastic in it from sitting in a water bowl all day. So one of my biggest incentives is to make sure that I always have a water bowl that’s insulated and keeps my water cold at all times. Also, something I learned recently is that once your body signals thirst, you’re already dehydrated. So to make sure that doesn’t happen I like to keep an eye on the clock and take a couple swigs of water every 30 minutes-1 hour. Some people even find that having one of those big water bowls with time markers on it is really helpful. Another thing I like to do is if I even glance at my water bottle for more than 1 second I take a sip. If your brain registers that water is available, you should drink it.
Next, eating healthy(ish). I find that any level of meal prep is helpful. Because your first step is to make sure you have healhty-ish food in your house to start otherwise you’re gonna get to work and order Chipotle door dash and we don’t want that. So in the beginning of the week think ahead for things that are easy to throw together: salads, sandwiches, wraps, veggies, fruit, etc; For people that have a microwave available: leftover dinner from the night before, broccoli steam-in-bag, things like that you know? Now you can bring all of this great stuff to work and still not make time for yourself to eat it. In my industry I find it helpful to always block off at least 30 minutes to eat my food so I can stay nourished and happy. Can’t do your job if your body and brain aren’t being fed. If you aren’t able to block off time for yourself and you’re a hairstylist of work with clients in general, try to bring snack-type foods that will be easy to munch on throughout the day in between a client or during a clients processing time.
All of that being said, it doesn’t 1000000% matter what you eat or how you eat it, it’s just about putting food in your body and sustaining yourself in one way or the other. Fed is first.
Well thinks for coming,
See ya next week.
Woof! Woof!!!
